Work With Me

Looking to make your book ready for publishing? Or maybe you need to perfect your personal statement or blog post?

With over 5 years of experience editing fiction, essays, interviews, and poetry, a certificate in copyediting from Emerson College, several publishing internships under my belt, and a love for the craft of language, I am meticulous and passionate about making good work great.

Although my quality is equivalent to a seasoned copy editor, as a newcomer to the freelance scene I offer affordable rates under or at the low-end of the Editorial Freelancers Association standards and will work closely with you to ensure you get everything you need out of the editing stages. I love to work with new, indie, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ authors, so if you’re looking to enhance your work and take it one step closer to publishing, reach out to see if we’d be a good fit!

I am open to working with just about any genre or topic, but ones I particularly enjoy and have the most experience working with: poetry collections, speculative fiction, identity, music, queer romance, literary fiction, TV/film/book reviews and essays, mythology/folklore, pop culture, self-care, nostalgia, and lifestyle.

I’m happy to work with payment plans and sliding scales if needed.

RATES & DESCRIPTIONS

Developmental Edit

$0.01/word

For books in their early stages, this service provides big-picture feedback on plot, character development, style, voice, story structure, and detail (or lack thereof). I look for repetition, how engaging your prose and story are, and what can be improved on and where, as well as your strengths and effective moments.

This service includes a full editorial letter (minimum one page) in addition to line-by-line comments and questions.

Copy and Line Edit

$0.01–$0.02/word

In a copy edit (or line edit), I go line by line to fix spelling, grammar, syntax, punctuation, awkward or unclear wording, and inconsistencies. This service is to improve the flow and overall readability of your piece.

Proofread

$0.009/word

In a proofread, I will do a final read-through of your work to catch typos, missing words and punctuation, formatting errors, and mistakes that were missed in a previous copyedit. I will also check for style consistency, based on provided style sheet.

This service is intended for work in its final stage before publishing, and it must have already gone through copyediting.

Full Package

$0.02–$0.03/word
2,500 word minimum for non-fiction, 10,000 word minimum for fiction
(Rate dependent on how heavy of an edit a piece requires. Contact me for payment plans/sliding scale rates)

Three stages of editing: developmental, copy/line editing, and a final proofread. Each stage will include you reviewing and making changes based on my edits and feedback before moving on to the next edit.

TESTIMONIALS

“Turi is an exceptionally talented editor and a true asset to Sunstroke Magazine. Her insights and feedback are consistently thorough, constructive, and delivered with an evident care for both the writer and publication and always delivers in a timely fashion. Working with Turi has been nothing short of a pleasure!”

— Birdy Francis, Founder and Managing Director of Sunstroke Press

"As an editor, Turi's attention to poetics and use of literary devices allows her to leave every piece of work she touches with a polished, seamless, and gut-wrenching finish. In her own poetry, Turi is an expert at saying everything without saying too much and applies this same technique in the literary works she edits.

Turi is attentive always, not only to the face-value structure and language of the poem itself, but always first and foremost to the mind of the poet: she knows how to absorb everything that makes a poem the work of its poet and accommodates her feedback and editing accordingly. In her mind, she takes the shoes of the speaker and rids or changes any language or form that might prevent the poet from reaching their full potential in a poem.

Turi's bird-eye-view approach to poetry is what makes her a fantastic editor and writer; she's capable of absorbing anything presented to her and guiding it toward its true form of excellence based on her contextualization of the piece in the eyes of its writer, as opposed to the piece in the eyes of the editor. In the time we spent together as we edited one another's poetry, there never existed another individual in my mind who would read and understand my work as authentic and as clear as Turi could.

It takes an immense amount of empathy and knowledge of poets and poetry to edit the way Turi does in her holistic approach to writing. Writer first, editor second, Turi undoubtedly understands what it means to entrust someone else with the responsibility to read and edit your work, hoping that the meaning stays true to the intention. As a writer, I am very grateful to have been read, edited, and understood by her brilliant and attentive mind."

— Leah Piñon, published poet

“I’ve worked with Turi dozens of times, and with every edit she makes me a better writer and journalist. She has the difficult job of revising work from 90 writers and 100+ staff, but manages her responsibility with diligence, care, and grace. Every piece of writing can benefit from Turi’s eyes and attention to detail.”

— Patu Ong, freelance music journalist for The Luna Collective, Pigeons & Planes, Lucid Monday, UNDRGRND Magazine
